Google search tips II
Tuesday, February 20, 2007
While performing a search a search for a particular search string we get number of links with the document files of different types like doc, pdf, xls, ppt etc. I have wondered what if I wanted to search only the word documents or pdfs or the power point presentations containing the search string I specified while performing the google search. I found a command which google provides to limit your search to the filetypes you require. Suppose you want to search the pdf files containing the string "growing the kids" you can specify the string with the filetype command for example "growing the kids" filetype:pdf.
Google can search the string you specified in various types of documents. Google can search the contents of the following file types :
  • .pdf (Adobe Acrobat PDF)
  • .ps (Adobe Postscript)
  • .doc (Microsoft Word)
  • .xls (Microsoft Excel)
  • .ppt (Microsoft Powerpoint)
  • .rtf (Rich Text Format)
  • .txt (Text)
  • .swf (Macromedia Flash)
